Release notes
What changed on roostcamera.com, newest first. Roost itself is an open source project and its own history lives with the source on GitHub. These notes cover this website.
Roost Camera
1.2.0 - 2026-09-27
- The sample data in the panel beside the headline now types itself out as it arrives, so you can watch a stored photo take shape rather than being handed the finished record.
- That panel no longer changes size as it moves between examples. It had been growing and shrinking every few seconds, which nudged the rest of the page each time.
- Tightens the panel so the data sits closer to its frame and more of it is readable at a glance.
- Simplifies the list of what you need to build one. The memory card and the power supply now sit with the Raspberry Pi they plug into, so the list is four things instead of five and every one of them is needed. The badges that said so on each item are gone, because saying it four times was not telling you anything.
- The Roost mark sits a little smaller in the header and the footer.
1.1.2 - 2026-09-26
- You can now jump straight to the page content from the keyboard. Press Tab when the page opens and the first thing offered is a link that skips the menu.
1.1.1 - 2026-09-26
- The code samples on the page no longer wrap mid line. They were a little wider than the panel they sit in, so long lines folded onto a second row and read as broken.
1.1.0 - 2026-09-26
- Says more clearly that Roost is yours to change. The recognition step and the storage are each one small piece, so you can point them at a model you run and a disk you own, keep everything on your own network, and have nothing to pay each month.
- Sets out what the build actually costs either way, rather than leaving you to work it out. The headline figures no longer show a price, because following the guide as written does cost a little and a zero in that row read as free.
- Fixes the sample data on the page, which had long lines broken across rows in a way that read as a formatting fault.
- Loads the two page fonts sooner, so the headline stops waiting on them.
1.0.0 - 2026-09-26
- First release of roostcamera.com, the home page for Roost, the open source AI security camera you host yourself.
- Walks through the four parts of the pipeline, what each one does, and what you need to build one.
- Shows the real shape of the data, so you can see how a photo is stored and searched before you commit an evening to it.
- Links straight to the source and to the full build guide, which takes you from a blank memory card to a working dashboard.
